A saved video with a spoken first audio track.

Up to 5 minutes · 25 MB per file

Creates an editable text draft and approximate subtitle cues. No speaker labels, translation, or live recording. The first audio track is used.

The first run downloads about 32 MB for audio extraction and 70–80 MB for speech recognition. Cached resources may reduce later downloads. A computer is recommended; accuracy and cue timing vary with speech and recording quality.

Your video is never uploaded.

How to convert video to text

Choose a video saved on your device, select the spoken language, and start transcription. The tool uses the first audio track and accounts for a long near-silent lead-in when placing approximate subtitle cues on the video timeline. Review every important name, number, and cue before sharing.

Video input
One saved clip up to five minutes and 25 MB. Common MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM files may work when their video and audio codecs are readable. Protected or damaged files are not supported.
Audio track
The first audio track is extracted before recognition. A silent video or a file without readable audio cannot produce a transcript. Alternate track selection is not available.
Text
Edit the complete plain-text draft, then copy it or download TXT. Plain-text edits stay separate from subtitle cue edits so neither version changes unexpectedly.
Subtitles
Review approximate cue times and text, then download SRT or VTT. Timing is approximate. Check and adjust subtitle lines against the video before using them.

A LITTLE CLARITY

Video to text questions

Can I convert a video to text for free?

Yes. You can transcribe one saved video at a time without an account. The clip must be no more than five minutes or 25 MB, and your device performs the extraction and recognition.

Does the video leave my device?

No. The selected video and its extracted audio stay in this browser tab. The first run downloads conversion resources from this site and a speech model from Hugging Face; those resource requests do not include your video.

Which audio track is transcribed?

The first readable audio track is used. This tool cannot select a different language track, transcribe a video with no audio, bypass DRM, or repair a damaged file.

Are SRT and VTT timings exact?

No. Cue timing comes from speech recognition and can be approximate, especially with pauses, music, noise, or overlapping speakers. The tool accounts for a long near-silent lead-in, but you should play the video and review every cue before publishing subtitles.
