How to convert MP3 to WAV for editing
This MP3 to WAV converter helps when an editor, sampler, or analysis tool asks for uncompressed audio. It decodes the existing MP3 into PCM WAV. Keep the original sample rate unless the target app requests another rate, and use the original recording instead if you need better source quality.
- WAV output
- Uncompressed 16-bit PCM. Changing format avoids another lossy encode but does not repair compression artifacts.
- Project settings
- Keep original sample rate, or choose 16, 22.05, 44.1, or 48 kHz. Keep channels or select mono or stereo.
- File size
- WAV can be much larger than MP3. Compare the actual download size and make sure you have enough storage.
Choose an MP3 file, or try the MP3 sample to see a real format change.
Match the sample rate and channels to your app’s requirements; no MP3 bitrate is needed for WAV.
Convert MP3 to WAV, listen to the result, and download the WAV for your project.

This short, synthetic recording says: “The meeting starts at nine. Please bring your notes.” The result below was made with this tool. Compare the sound and size, or try the sample above with your own settings.
Keep original sample rate and channels were selected. The uncompressed WAV is larger, with no recovery of detail lost in the MP3. These sizes describe this sample only. Duration, source audio, format, and settings change your result; a smaller file is not a measure of better sound.
MP3 to WAV questions
Will MP3 to WAV make my audio sound better?
No. The WAV contains the decoded MP3 audio, including existing compression artifacts. It can be useful for compatibility and further editing, but it is not a replacement for an original uncompressed recording.
Can I export 24-bit WAV or 32-bit float?
This MP3 to WAV converter exports 16-bit PCM only. If a project requires another bit depth, use an audio editor that offers it and verify its export settings. Increasing bit depth does not recover detail lost from the source.
Why is the WAV so much larger?
PCM stores uncompressed audio samples rather than a compressed MP3 stream. Its size depends on duration, sample rate, channels, and bit depth. The paired example shows an actual conversion, not a guaranteed size ratio.
Can I convert several files at once?
Add up to 10 files. They are processed one after another, and you can download each finished result or save the batch in one ZIP. Each file can be up to 100 MB, or 25 MB on touch devices. Use a computer for larger recordings.
Where is my download, and what happens to the original?
Choose Download beside a finished file. Look in your browser’s Downloads or the Files app on your phone; some browsers offer a sharing menu. The original is unchanged. Results are kept only in this tab, so download them before refreshing or leaving.
